Find Moffat County Civil Dockets

Need a Moffat County civil court docket? Start with the unified trial-court clerk, whose office keeps the full case file. First figure out where the case lives: District Court, County Court, or the small-claims division. The public hearing search can find a current setting by party name or case number, though it won't show the whole file. For the complete history, ask the clerk for a Register of Action. Copies of pleadings, orders, and judgments take a separate records request.

Moffat Civil Docket Class Codes

A Moffat County civil case number combines a four-digit year, a case-class code, and a numeric sequence. The code tells you the court and the procedure. Don't add leading zeros to the sequence; the official source doesn't prescribe them.

CV
A District Court civil matter, including claims within that court's general jurisdiction.
C
A County Court civil claim within the court's published limit.
S
A small-claims matter handled through Moffat County Court.
DR
A domestic-relations case, which can include protected documents even when a setting is public.

Take 2026-CV-123 as an example of that year-class-sequence pattern. It's a made-up format, not a real Moffat County civil court docket number.

What a Civil Docket Shows

The online calendar and the Register of Action answer different questions. A calendar result shows only the next public setting. The ROA is different. The clerk keeps this dated list of accepted filings, minute orders, and later activity, so it forms the real chronology of the court docket. Filed documents are separate records, requested by title or by docket-entry date.

Case NumberFour-digit year, C, CV, S, or DR class, and a numeric sequence.
PartiesPlaintiff and defendant, or petitioner and respondent, plus the formal caption.
FilingsAccepted complaints, petitions, answers, notices, motions, and minute orders listed by date.
SettingsDate, start time, duration, hearing type, location, appearance type, and courtroom on public calendar results.
OutcomeJudgment, dismissal, settlement closure, or another disposition, verified through the order or ROA.

A calendar card leaves out plenty: the cause of action, attorneys, financial ledger, full chronology, document images, and final disposition. A blank field doesn't mean the event never happened.

Moffat Civil Docket Court Levels

Colorado runs no justice-of-the-peace court for Moffat small claims. Instead, both the state District Court and County Court sit at Moffat Combined Court. One local clerk office maintains all their case records.

If a name search turns up no Moffat County civil court docket, check the court level and class before widening the date range. The elected County Clerk and Recorder is a different office entirely. That office keeps land, election, marriage, and recording records, not these state-court files.

Types of Civil Cases on the Docket

Moffat District Court holds general civil jurisdiction, while Moffat County Court handles limited civil and small-claims matters. Domestic, probate, and property-related proceedings can also appear on the civil docket. The class code and party roles show which track applies.

  • Contract, debt, property, and other ordinary civil disputes.
  • County civil claims below the published $25,000 limit.
  • Small claims filed under the S case class.
  • Domestic-relations matters using the DR class.
  • Probate and specialized District Court proceedings.

A complaint states an allegation, not a judgment. An answer proves a party responded, nothing more. The matching order or final disposition controls the outcome.

Moffat Civil Docket Rule 120

Moffat County civil calendar results sometimes include Rule 120 hearings, a Colorado procedure often tied to an order authorizing sale. A listing may read “NO APPEARANCE REQUIRED.” That phrase covers only the listed setting. Don't treat it as a blanket rule for every event in the case.

Read the order first. A public calendar label is not the full instruction. Compare the current notice, the most recent order, and the appearance type before deciding how to proceed.

The FY2024 state report logged 163 Moffat District Court civil filings. Of those, 118 were distraint warrants and 19 were Rule 120 deed-of-trust matters. Strip out those two categories and only 26 remain. So the total is not 163 ordinary lawsuits.

Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets

A Moffat County civil court docket may list many settings. A return date on summons is one. So are an initial conference appearance, a status conference, a motions hearing, or another setting. The card gives the date, time, estimated duration, location, appearance type, and courtroom. The official legacy notice put civil return days on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. Settings with the clerk sat on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. Confirm with the court before relying on those times. A notice of setting only announces an event. A later continuance or reset may replace it. Both entries can stay in the case history. The newest item is not automatically the controlling one. Compare the later order, and call the clerk when dates conflict. The full method for confirming a moved hearing is in the Moffat County court calendar.

Moffat Civil Docket Chronology

A typical civil sequence runs like this. It moves from complaint or petition, fee, summons, service, and answer to disclosures, motions, conferences, and settings. Then come judgment, dismissal, settlement, or trial. Service matters, since some deadlines run from it. A motion only asks the judge to act. The related order shows whether the request was granted, denied, or left pending. The docket can keep going after judgment. Later entries may deal with costs, collection, garnishment, or a stay. A transcript of judgment, satisfaction, or appeal can also appear. An Order for Judgment states the adjudication. A Transcript of Judgment is a clerk product used for enforcement or recording. A Satisfaction of Judgment records fulfillment. But it doesn't erase the prior Moffat County civil docket.

Moffat Civil Judgment Records

Moffat County judgment papers start with one form. The Colorado court record request form offers a menu of documents. Choose a Register of Action, Order for Judgment, Transcript of Judgment, or Satisfaction of Judgment. You can also name a specific document. Fill in the Moffat case number and the party names. Add a docket-entry date if you know it. Electronic requests go to MoffatClerk@judicial.state.co.us, per the routing page.

Know which copy type you need before paying. A certified record runs $20 per document on top of the copy charge. The form also lists a $5 name-search fee per name. A $25-per-hour research fee kicks in after the first hour. A clerk usually replies within three business days, the Judicial Branch says. Though retrieval, review, and payment can stretch the final delivery.

Note: Ask for the ROA first when the judgment title or entry date is unclear. Then request the specific document it points to.

Public Access to Civil Dockets

Online is not the whole story. Chief Justice Directive 05-01 governs case-record access, and it treats remote viewing differently from access at a court facility. Some public Moffat County civil docket material that the hearing search never displays can still be reached through a clerk request or a counter inspection at the courthouse.

Key Rules:

Chief Justice Directive 05-01 controls public, remote, facility-only, and sealed court-case record access.

Colorado Rule of Civil Procedure 7.1 addresses suppression and redaction of personal identifying information.

Colorado Open Records Act governs public records generally, but does not replace the court-specific directive.

Expect extra steps with certain files. Domestic, probate, juvenile, and protected-content requests may require identification or further review. A sealed file opens only by court order. And a blank result on a remote search never proves the case does not exist.

Moffat Civil Docket Access Rules

One recent change deserves a careful read. Through Rule Change 2025(08), the Colorado Supreme Court amended Chapter 38 Rule 2. That rule concerns Judicial Branch administrative records. It does not replace CJD 05-01. CJD 05-01 still governs the complaint, motion, order, or judgment inside a Moffat County civil case.

Current links matter right now. The Judicial Branch is migrating its site from 2024 through 2026. View the court's Rule Change 2025(08) source to read the administrative-record amendment itself.

The split matters when you request a Moffat County civil case file. The clerk of court handles that request under one directive, while records held by Judicial Branch administration follow a separate rule.

Missing Moffat Civil Docket Results

A closed civil matter with nothing scheduled will often drop out of the date-driven public tool. Run the exact case number. Check the spelling. Toggle between person and business search modes. Widen the date range and confirm the prefix is C, CV, S, or DR. Still nothing? Call the Combined Court clerk. Ask whether the file is old, stored off site, suppressed, or restricted from public view.

The Colorado court self-help and forms index is the place for official filing resources. Know the limits of the other tools. Colorado Courts E-Filing moves papers into the court; it is not a public document browser. CoCourts sells a real-time ROA, though it cannot hand you certified copies. For the Moffat County civil court docket and every filing behind it, the clerk stays the official source.

Protected Moffat Civil Docket Material

Some domestic and probate entries are suppressed or sit behind an identity check even when a related hearing shows up on the docket. Social Security numbers, account data, and similar protected identifiers get redacted or withheld. So a public copy can look different. The protected version of the Moffat County court record stays with the court.

Let the clerk apply the access rule. A routine records email cannot undo a sealing order. Where you are authorized, submit the form. Bring government photo identification if asked. Request a judicial order in any case where CJD 05-01 demands one.
